Police Officer
Qualified candidates, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Police Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Police Officer for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Experience: No experience is required.
Training/Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid Nevada driver license at the time of hire.
Must be at least 20.5 years of age by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must be a Citizen of the United States by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to any law, including NRS 202.360 or 18 U.S. Code § 921-922.
Must meet all minimum standards for appointment to perform duties of a peace officer under NAC 289.110.
Corrections Officer
Qualified applicants, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Corrections Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Corrections Officer for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Experience: No experience is required.
Training/Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid Nevada driver license at the time of hire.
Must be at least 20.5 years of age by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must be a Citizen of the United States by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to any law, including NRS 202.360 or 18 U.S. Code § 921-922.

Cadet
Cadets attend, participate, and successfully complete the Cadet Academy and perform entry level work of routine difficulty in the Patrol and Detention Services Divisions of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. A Cadet's presence in their field and ability to respond to non-emergency calls, frees up Police Officers to combat and fight violent crime. Cadets stand ready to serve their community. Once a Cadet reaches the age of 21, and upon successful completion of a background investigation, they will be placed in the next LVMPD Police or Corrections Recruit Academy or resign. Cadets do not possess police powers or carry firearms.
Experience: No experience is required.
Training/Education: Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
License or Certificate: Must possess a valid Nevada driver license at time of appointment.
Must be at least 18 years of age and cannot have reached his/her 20th birthday by the date of the first test instrument.
Must be a Citizen of the United States by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to any law, including NRS 202.360 or 18 U.S. Code § 921-922.
Must meet all minimum standards for appointment to perform duties of a peace officer under NAC 289.110.
